Dillema and Solution: investigation and research on value of chinese traditional Wushu/ Li Yanbing
Based on traditional Chinese martial arts, this study explores the development of their
values and dilemmas in modern society, and proposes paths to cope with them. Traditional
Wushu carries multiple values such as technical combat, health preservation, cultural
inheritance and spiritual cultivation, but in the context of modernisation and globalisation, it
faces challenges such as declining cultural status, functional transformation and social
identity.
Objective of the study: to sort out the value evolution of traditional wushu, analyse its
value transformation in modern society, reveal the dilemmas and causes, and explore the path
of inheritance and development.
Research Methods: This study uses literature analysis, field research, interviews and
questionnaires, combined with SWOT analysis and cultural identity evaluation model to
explore the modern dilemmas and solutions of traditional Wushu. The subjects of the study
include five experts with rich experience in martial arts, 200 martial arts enthusiasts, and five
martial arts institutions. Through expert interviews, questionnaire surveys and in-depth
interviews, multi-level data support on the change of value orientation, contemporary
cognition and inheritance practices of traditional wushu were collected.
FINDINGS: Traditional Wushu presents a dual identity in modern society. The core
values face challenges, such as the weakening of skill inheritance, the dilution of cultural
connotation, the decline of social concern and the ambiguous positioning in international
communication; however, they also show new and diversified values, such as the functions of
national fitness, cultural communication and spiritual education. The study suggests that the
multiple values of Wushu can be further explored through educational promotion,
technological innovation and policy support.
Conclusion: The modern development of traditional Wushu is a dynamic adaptation of
core values and modern needs. By protecting tradition, promoting innovation, and balancing
globalisation and localisation, the cultural values and social functions of traditional Wushu
can be innovatively developed and become an important carrier of Chinese culture to the
world. In the future, we should improve the inheritance mechanism, enhance public
recognition, and deepen its application in the cultural industry, education and international
communication.
